Ear Wax Removal (Micro Suction)

Clear hearing is a gift we often take for granted. Hearing does tend to reduce wit age however something as small as ear wax can also affect it. It is important to know you are able to get your ears and hearing checked at the pharmacy.

Earwax is completely normal and in fact it is necessary for the health of your ears. Earwax normally just falls out on its own. When it’s blocking your ears, a pharmacist can help.

Symptoms Of Earwax Build-Up

Symptoms of earwax build-up include:

  •  Hearing loss
  •  Earache or a feeling that your ears are blocked
  •  Ringing or buzzing in your ears (tinnitus)
  •  Vertigo (feeling dizzy and sick)

Our Pharmacist Can Help With Earwax Build-Up

Speak to a member of staff about our earwax removal service. They can give advice and suggest treatments.

We can book you in for a consultation with our pharmacist who can check your ear for wax as well as offering a hearing test. If wax is present this can easily be removed using a micro suction machine.

Causes Of Earwax Build-Up

A build-up of earwax can happen if you have:

  •  Narrow or damaged ear canals
  •  Lots of hair in your ear canals
  •  A skin condition affecting your scalp or around your ear
  •  Inflammation of your ear canal (otitis externa or “swimmer’s ear”)

Preventing Earwax Build-Up

You cannot prevent earwax. It’s there to protect your ears from dirt and germs.

But regularly using ear drops, or olive or almond oil, will help soften earwax build-up. This will help it fall out on its own and should stop your ears getting blocked.

What to do prior to your Appointment for Earwax Removal

Place two drops of olive oil in the ear twice a day. Start this a week before your appointment. This will help to soften the wax and make the removal process much easier.

What is the cost?

The initial appointment to check your ear and hearing will cost £10. The removal of wax costs £55 for one ear or £65 for two. This is inclusive of the appointment cost.

How long is the appointment

We usually book the appointments for half an hour however they often take less time. The overall time is dependent on the amount of wax present and how soft it is. At times it is necessary to remove the wax over 2 appointments. The second appointment is included in the original price and you won’t have to pay anything more for it. In the extremely unlikely event of not being able to remove all the wax in 2 appointments you will be explained any further options.
